There is a whole family of different nanocellulosic nature-based materials, which may be divided into, nanocrystalline cellulose (CNC), nanofibrillar cellulose (CNF) and bacterial nanocellulose (BNC).The interest in nanocellulosic materials goes back, at least, to the 1940s, but has greatly proliferated since the turn of the millennium.Applications range from low-end papermaking applications to high-end use in, for instance, medical and cosmetic materials sector.The presentation will give an introduction to the various nanocellulosic materials, their manufacture and use and their environmental, health and safety aspects.

Professor Tom Lindström has a wide experience in most sectors of the Forest Products Industry, such as Pulp and Paper Technology and Wood Technology. The experience encompasses academic, institutional and industrial activities.Tom Lindström is currently a Principal Research Scientist at Innventia AB and Prof. at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and became a George Jayme medallist 2007 (ZellCheming), and an Ekman  medallist 2008 (SPCI) and William H. Aiken medallist 2016 (Tappi).
