We carry out analyses of spots and deposits in pulp and paper. Light microscopy and different staining techniques are used for deposits originating from wood or having fibrous character. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) is used both for fibrous materials and other kind of spots and deposits when knowledge of the deposit structure and chemical composition is needed.
ESEM is equipped with a X-ray detector allowing us to carry out chemical analyses of very small spots and deposits of inorganic origin. The organic part of deposits such as resin, rosin and other polymers can be analysed in cooperation with our experts in chemical analysis.
ESEM micrographs of stone cells with crystals. X-ray analysis showed that they are composed mainly of clacium, which indicated calcium oxalate.
