Bioenergy and co-production of transportation fuels and chemicals

The proposal for The Bioeconomy Research Programme 2018–2020 consists of a number of programme areas containing a variety of research topics. The programme areas each address mutual questions and opportunities of great interest to a consortium of RISE customers. All programme areas are planned for three years.

Bioenergy and bio-based chemicals andtransportation fuels are high on the politicalagenda today as a way to reduce emissions offossil-based CO2, increase the use of renewablematerials and utilize local resources. Bioenergyconversion technologies need to increaseprofitability by utilizing cheap fuels anddecrease emissions. We will address bioenergyconversion, as well as process and feedstockselection and optimization for bio-basedtransportation fuels. Emphasis will also be onidentification of co-production routes toproduce chemicals in order to improveprofitability and facilitate commercialintroduction.
