The AMPOFORM project is an abbreviation of its title: Additive Manufacturing of prosthetic products based on forestry raw materials.

Effect: The project will enable Sweden to become a global leader in additive manufacturing using forest-based materials, which will lead to the creation of a brand-new value chain with new, stronger competitiveness.

Solution: It will demonstrate a concrete example of how bio-based materials can be used within the public healthcare sector. It will also help to show that using renewable bio-based materials is not just an environmental necessity for patients, but a financially advantageous option too. In addition, customers will benefit greatly due to a significant reduction in manufacturing time with less need for fitting and testing appointments and maximised personalisation.

Partners: The project consortium consists of a research institute and four companies that possess leading expertise all along the value chain, from bio-based materials and 3D printers to orthotics and a market-leader within prostheses and orthopaedic products. The total budget is just over SEK 11 million, with Vinnova providing 44% of the financing. The project runs for 36 months from June 2016 to May 2019.
